A partial history of particle physics I

The history of particle physics starts with the concept of the atom. The word is derived from atomos, which means indivisible. It goes way back to the Greek philosopher Leucippus in the 5th century BC. His student Democritus promoted the idea, but Aristotle was dead against it. I just love this time of year. The Sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, the bees are buzzing, and the birds are singing. I think they’re happy. The world is a troubled place, and I don’t feel too optimistic about it right now. I won’t go into details because this is a physics blog, not a politics blog.
